I use f-prot on my server with iMAIL. f-prot works well but the realtime scanner sometimes locks mail boxes on occasion. When this happens the email client cannot get mail. And the web messaging can't retrieve mail either.

You must disable F-Prot's "RealTime Protector". It isn't designed to be run on a mailserver, and it *will* conflict with the server (even if you can get it to not scan specific directories).

The on-access scanners of other AV programs are OK *if* they are set to not scan the \IMail directory (and subdirectories). But F-Prot's on-access scanner shouldn't be used at all.

I like f-prot it does work well but the realtime portion doesn't clean viruses.

F-Prot -- just like every other desktop AV program -- isn't designed to scan E-mail. You need a program such as Declude Virus that is designed to handle E-mail. Ever wonder why AV companies charge $1,000s for their mailserver scanners whereas they only charge $10s for their desktop scanners? That's why.
