 first one writes to some memory area and the other one can manipulate it.

aka "pipe": output from one process to input of another process.

pipe is one of the original core concepts/innovations of "The Unix Way", which MS copied (just in case you read that MS invented piping)

You can concatenate more than 2.

You should also start the log line with a date/time stamp.
