Put another way, every development snapshot is believed to be good sources,
Mark,
I suspect that the words "development snapshot" may have been
redefined out from under you. In most projects these days there's
the "release" or "stable" version and the "development" version,
where "development" can mean anything from "it compiles!" to "highly
functional beta". I, at least, tend to suspect the former and
usually steer clear of nightlies or snapshots for just the simple
reason that I don't know if it's worth my time yet.
In addition, expectations have changed. It's not unusual (and often
expected) to see detailed release notes (for the development tree) on
a web page, a project status/roadmap page, and an online bug tracker
for the browsing. These things may not be practically achievable for
a one-man project, but it might go toward explaining why snapshots
don't see the use you'd like.
