The idea of having some sort of name mapping feature has been bandied about the IMAP protocol community, but to date no final decisions have been made. It would not be a good idea for any server implementation to do this unilaterally, although your idea of a cf-based mapping list has some merit.

One problem that you have not considered is that although some of these named items have similar purposes, different clients have slightly different semantics. This is particularly the case with Drafts, which tend to have some client-specific metadata stashed away in the headers.
