Hi Folks,

We're running imapd V2006g, but this problem also occurred in 2006f and 2006b.

We've got a few hundred users connecting to our imapd/mail server. Most of
them are
quite happy. But one user is having a problem with imapd Hangups. She is using
an updated version of Microsoft Outlook, and she claims that it freezes for her
when she is hits the "send/receive" button. This button basically tells
outlook to
talk to the imapd process running on our mail server.

The error message we get in our log file looks like this:
Apr 2 12:02:40 phobos imapd[20287]: Hangup user=aek
host=DHCP-102-197.caltech.edu [131.215.102.197]

Can anyone help me understand what is going on, and how to fix this problem?
After
Outlook freezes for her, she kills it, then restarts it and mail will be fine
for her
again. This occurs 2 to 15 times per day.

The reason she clicks on the "send/receive" button is that she claims that she
is not
seeing her new e-mail automatically. She is directly connected to the
internet, and
we've set her server timeout to 5 minutes.

Thanks,
Cheryl
What mailbox format is this user using for his/her folders? If I remember correctly from many years ago I saw similar issues when one uses Outlook with the old "unix" folder format and the user's Outlook connection got the "kiss of death" due to another imap process getting access to the folder. Outlook would sometimes in this case not automatically acquire a new IMAP connection, but instead "freeze up" and require a restart before it would get a new working connection. This sounds kind of like what you are reporting.

If this is the issue, it could be resolved by moving this user to mbx or mix formatted folders.
