My other concern is that there are certain folders showing up empty. When I do a tcpdump from the server watching the client just as they click on the folder and capture the traffic I'm seeing IMAP STATUS commands of other folders. It's like the pointers are screwed up somehow or I'm seeing delayed data from her "scrolling" down (kind of like seeing the "ls" data in a directory prior to the "cat" command of the file).

Interesting. I have had acolytes of the maildir church scream that I don't know what I am talking about when I said that there was a scaling issue with directories with too many inodes.
