Hi, If you have it now, how much time and effort do you need to invest to keep in going? As far as I know IMGate is pretty much a "fire and forget" setup for the basic function. As you mailserver will definitely like having IMGate as an inbound filter and maybe even as an outbound mailer I would simply leave it in place.
If you don't intend to keep it in the future just set up a protocol for removing it when you are ready to do so. That way if the server does fail at an inconvenient moment you'll have all the steps to take in front of you and it should take just minutes to get things going. I am actually debating whether I still need my imgate or not. Still testing and have not migrated my heavy domains yet. Will keep list posted on my findings regarding load and spam. -----Original Message----- From: roger weiss [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, March 28, 2007 8:48 PM To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Subject: Fwd: [IMGate] Re: switching to smartermail We switched to SmarterMail several years ago and with the latest release have actually eliminated our external IMGate filtering server as we had to deal with too many (> 1000) domains coming from several disjoint (FreeBSD, Linux, windows, external customer's) mail servers (not just 1 SmarterMail). The new greylisting feature in SmarterMail really cut down on spam making this possible. I still have it in place for use as a filtering server for a select few domains and as a backup MX server. If you decide you still need your IMGate server you just need to switch to a new program to export your users to IMGate. This is available for free on the Smartertools site. Here is a link to the instructions: http://www.smartertools.com/downloads/smartermail/smailusr-readme.pdf and here is the download: ftp://ftp.balloons.com/pub/smailusr.zip If you want to save some money on Smarter Mail we offer it at 10% off of list price.
