Perhaps you could test your upload onto the dev server? Upload any existing objects that you want to test conflation with there, then import your data onto the dev server, using whatever process for conflation that you have defined.
To follow on from what Mike said, if you can't define the process before doing the import, you shouldn't be doing the import.
