-dd Okay, call me (and scores of other ISPs) stupid. I can live with your name calling...
>that would be incredibly stupid of the isp to allow. >that's like me allowing someone to send out mail claiming they're address is >[EMAIL PROTECTED] I guess then that you've never seen forged addresses. Nor do you allow your customers to send out mail with return addresses for other valid inboxes they have. For example, they are working from home using your service, and wish to send out a business email that would be replied to at their work address. >>Their emails go out through AOL's server, but have their home address >>(@L7.net) as >>the return, and they still use their home inbox to retreive their mail. >>How does >>roaming prevent them from using their home address? > >because no responsible sysadmin would allow it. Oh good, we got that cleared up. Now I'm irresponsible too, sure appreciate that :) >if i block port 25 between 216.173.222.100-250 and the internet, they >*have* to use >my mailserver, or none at all, or webmail, because smtp uses port 25, and >you can't >send mail without it. Yes? And? That's my whole point! Customers connected to your dialup ports should ONLY be allowed to send email through your smtp server, or not at all. They should not be allowed to run their own smtp service behind a dialup connection. There is no valid reason to do so. The only reason would be to hide something from you, such as spamming. And blocking port 25 from your dialup addresses also prevents viruses that have built in smtp service from spreading. -Alan This is the discussion list for the IMS Free email server software.
