Sorry. Of course, sending on port 110 does not make sense I suppose that in certain network configurations, other ports than 25 can be found on client's mail smtp server settings ( maybe 135 if they reach an exchange server ? )
The document I was thinking of is an old and quite esoteric archive for Amiga, with no practical use I suppose ( below, for fun) Benoit Short: Send mail using POP3 protocol Author: Mario Speranda <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Uploader: Mario Speranda <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> Version: V2.1 Type: comm/mail Requires: AmiTCP or Miami Long: Commonly, sending mail is done across your SMTP server using SMTP protocol, and this is in fact, how all Amiga e-mail programs operate. But if your favourite ISP blocks SMTP connections then you have a problem. Fortunately, many POP3 servers are capable of sending mail (in adition to fetching it) for you, but AFAIK the only e-mail client with this option is Eudora (PC). This is where this cunning piece of software comes in. When you install it, it will transparently enable all your e-mail programs to send mail using POP3 protocol... ----- Original Message ----- From: "John Martoccio" <[EMAIL PROTECTED]> To: <[email protected]> Sent: Wednesday, December 17, 2003 4:32 PM Subject: RE: Port 25 or 110 beetween outlook and smtp server ? | Port 25 is SMTP (both for client to send to you, and you to send to another | mail server) | Port 110 is POP3 (clients to retrieve mail on) | | John Martoccio | Intelligent Solutions (a computer VAR) | Fox Lake, IL, USA | [EMAIL PROTECTED] | | | | > -----Original Message----- | > From: [EMAIL PROTECTED] | > [mailto:[EMAIL PROTECTED] Behalf Of BSarton | > Sent: Wednesday, December 17, 2003 9:26 AM | > To: [email protected] | > Subject: Port 25 or 110 beetween outlook and smtp server ? | > | > | > Is it port 25 or port 110 which is used beetween outlook and | > the smtp server | > when sending out an email ? | > Or both ? | > | > In a 'old' document about the SMTP protocol, I read that the | > email goes out | > on port 110 up to the smtp server, | > and then continues its route on port 25 under the SMTP protocol. | > | > Outlook settings are preconfigured with smtp servers on port | > 25.
