Sure, you can turn off (or down) 7-bit checking. (I had a lot of trouble
with this, too.) There is a setting under structure to set how many 7-bit
errors to allow. If you set it to the maximum value, you've effectively
turned the check off. I see I have it turned off on my systems. (Not every
TF filter turns out to be a good idea!)
The problem is that a lot of clients claim that they're sending plain text,
but then allow hit bit characters in the text. That's wrong by the RFCs, but
it is almost always harmless. So every mail client can read such messages.
What the sending clients should do is declare the text to be 8bit plain
text, but many don't do that.
