I still have a live EMWAC IMS server that is running POP3 & SMTP, with SMTPRcv, tho I am not sure what version. I also have several old IMS servers somewhere in the data center that were once gateway (pre-filters) for Exchange2003 servers a few years ago. I will look and see if I can fire one of those up and maybe that can help. I seem to remember having a problem switching between using the Gateway in IMS and not, but it was so long ago. I have a lot of my old notes from when I ran several of these servers, I'll see if I can find anything that helps my memory.
I tried out hmail a few years ago and got the feeling that they were much more confident in their *nix offering than the Windows version and I did not want to go that way, so I dropped it. I do have a couple of MailEnable servers running and they require a lot more horsepower per mailbox than the IMS servers, but they seem to work OK. And webmail works right out of the box. Mine are v5.x & I think 6.x is out now. -ted On 3/28/2013 12:07 AM, John Martoccio wrote:
Thank you all for responding. I guess I am the only one still using IMS as a fully functioning server (SMTP & POP3). I do use SMTPRCV as the receiver though… and depend heavily on the DNS Blacklists function which handles all of our spam in this order: b.barracudacentral.org, zen.spamhaus.org, spam.spamrats.com, bl.spamcop.net, cn.countries.nerd.dk, br.counties.nerd.dk We only get a handful of spam messages weekly. Can’t figure out why I cannot get IMS to send directly to other servers anymore. I know it only supports HELO and not EHLO, so it may be that it’s having difficulty communicating now ? Original standard was RFC821 <http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc821> but was amended by RFC1123 <http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc1123> and is now been replaced by modern ESMTP (Extended SMTP) with RFC2821 <http://tools.ietf.org/html/rfc2821>. In reading these, it should still communicate, but there could be something else going on here that I am not aware. I need to learn how to capture the session and analyze the responses. If any of you have an idea how to do this, please share…. What do you all think about hmailserver <http://www.hmailserver.com/index.php?page=welcome>, does anyone have any comments on this one ? Does anyone out there still use the EMWAC-IMS server programs ? It’s been 17 years…. Maybe its time to finally call it ? I ran into a problem thinking it was Comcast, but now I think it might be EMWAC-IMS, I can’t remove the gateway. I ran “telnet mx1.hotmail.com 25” and can see and communicate with out-of-network servers, but if I take out the gateway in the control panel, and restart services, newly created mail just sits there. I plug the gateway back in, and it sends through their server, but if I try to go direct, nothing. I started getting a lot of “550 Relay Denied” errors recently as gateway’ing through their servers doesn’t match the domain headers. Any help would be most appreciated. ** *John Martoccio* *Ingleside, IL, USA*
