No, I cannot ping the iPhone from my laptop.

I'm using Static IP because DHCP sets up the weirdest settings like  
169.254.145.xxx rather than 192.168.1.xx for IP address, 255.255.0.0  
for Subnet Mask instead of 255.255.255.0 and the router setting is  
blank instead of 192.168.1.1.  For DNS server, I'm using MTNL's  
settings, although I've also tried open DNS settings.  I have tried  
forgetting the network and resetting the network settings.  Nothing  
seems to help.  In my router settings, I can see the MAC address of  
the iPhone in the list of Wifi Clients, but no IP address or Name.

This is really frustrating.  Perhaps it's time to start from scratch  
by resetting all content and settings.  This problem started after the  
2.1 Update.  All was fine before that.
