I have resolved it.
We had to go to gmail account and in settings we needed to re enable
the pop settings from all new mails.
After this it got resolved.
I have a feeling this happens each time i go out of town and come back.

Its not a domain issue as the mails are downloaded by gmail server

Have you tried downloading messages from another email account like
a Gmail account which support POP3 / IMAP protocol? If you have
not, I suggest you (a) create a new gmail.com email ID (b)
configure it download in Mail app (c) send 10 test messages to this
gmail.com email ID and (d) see if the problem occurs.
