What's the DNS server?
Try using 8.8.8.8 to see if the problem goes away.
My MTNL router's DNS service sometimes stops functioning which causes internet
to not work.

8.8.8.8 is Google's DNS servers so try that and see if it works.

As I said, airport shows full or 3 bars, so it does detect and connect to the
wifi itself, but not with any net connectivity. I've accessed the router admin
website, through my Mac, for example. So I don't think it's a ZTE issue...

Does the WIFI router give DHCP ip addresses?
What's your IP address? Is it 169.254.x.x? If yes, then you aren't getting an
IP from the DHCP server or the DHCP service is not enabled and you'll have to
configure your IP address manually depending on the way the WIFI router is
configured.
