The key issue here is who are you targeting Opensolaris / Indiana at ? I speak about the desktop user. Unix Geek or layman/new user ?
If we want Indiana to be adopted as an alternative desktop OS to replace Linux or Windows then small and trivial tasks need to be done well by the GUI. We need to break this perception of "unix is for geeks" for better adoption of Indiana. I also believe the WM should have options...say...choose between Gnome or KDE or XFCE so that the OS can be run on old (but not very old) and new hardware. Presently I am quite excited by the idea of running XFCE 4.4.1 on the latest SXDE whose GUI (Gnome 2.18) leaves a lot to be desired. Nexenta is also a good effort.
