So if it's compatibility you're after, why not just call Solaris
Express: (Community|Developer) Edition "OpenSolaris", after all, it's
the one which most closely resembles Solaris, and call Indiana
something else?

Because OpenSolaris is a pile of code, and SX is an opensolaris based
distribution.... that's why.
