Dear Anita: I have seen a dermatology book that talks of Farmers getting allergic responses to some vigna leaves, apparently they have some secretion on the tips of theirhairs...
But not seen this... may be it / your experience should be added to medical knowledge about allergic response to the physical or chemical constituents? Wonder if any body wrote this up... in medical literature? Also goes to show that knowing the vernacular meaning is so important and knowing the nuances of regional knowledge is soo very important... thanks for telling me/us usha di On Sat, Feb 23, 2013 at 11:23 PM, Aneeta Kindre <[email protected]>wrote: > Dear Usha di ji, > Marathi word_Khajkhujali means Itching (irritation in skin_skin khujana) > > Wenever d Pod of Mucuna comes in contact with skin, immediately iching is > started over there, so that local people named it as Khaj-khujali / > Khaj-kuiri !! > > And Fortunately or unfortunately i hv experienced with both species pod > M.pruriens n M.monosperma at my farm (Pune region) !! > Skin touch experience was unforgotable n horrible ever !! :) > > Warm wishes, > Anita Kindre. > On Feb 23, 2013 10:16 PM, "Ushadi Micromini" <[email protected]> > wrote: > >> Anita: >> nice to know the marathi name >> I dont understand Marathi language, wonder what does it mean? >> translated in english may be? do you know? >> >> thanks >> >> usha di >> >> On Sat, Feb 23, 2013 at 11:02 AM, Aneeta Kindre >> <[email protected]>wrote: >> >>> Dear Shobha ji, >>> There is no binomial nomenclature system in Marathi !! >>> >>> But in Marathi it has Local name_ Pandhari Khajkuiri / Pandhari >>> Khajkhujali !! >>> N its Synonym is Stizolobium rugosum. >>> M.monosperma is native to western ghats !! >>> (Palasambe region included in W.Ghats) :) >>> >>> Warm wishes, >>> Anita Kindre. >>> On Feb 23, 2013 10:34 AM, "Ushadi Micromini" <[email protected]> >>> wrote: >>> >>>> you mean Synonyms? >>>> is there a word like synoname? >>>> i was not aware of it >>>> >>>> >>>> also it would be Marathi names... >>>> not synonyms... >>>> Marathi names are not in the binomial system... >>>> >>>> usha di >>>> >>>> On Sat, Feb 23, 2013 at 10:30 AM, Shobha Halwe-Chavda <[email protected] >>>> > wrote: >>>> >>>>> Thanx everybody. Is it a local/Indian species,if so, can anyone tell me >>>>> its Marathi synoname? >>>>> On Feb 22, 2013 8:33 PM, "Satish Phadke" <[email protected]> wrote: >>>>> >>>>>> Yes* Mucuna monosperma* >>>>>> I have seen it in ghat section between Belgaon. and Goa. >>>>>> Dr Satish Phadke >>>>>> >>>>>> >>>>>> On Fri, Feb 22, 2013 at 4:13 PM, Shobha Halwe-Chavda < >>>>>> [email protected]> wrote: >>>>>> >>>>>>> Dear Friends, >>>>>>> Please help me in identifying this rare fruit !
