Makarand Ji, Very pleasant surprise to meet you here, remembering those facebook butterfly days :)
Many thanks to Gurcharan Sir and Satish Sir for the regional names. Else i would have taken help of FoI - http://www.flowersofindia.net/catalog/slides/Rangoon%20Creeper.html. It is very interesting that neither "Bengal Plants" nor "Flora Indica" provides any regional name for this plant. Roxburgh writes, "A native of Amboyna where it grows to be a large scandent shrub....." However, A college-text-book mentions it as BRAHMOLATA in Bengali, though we call it MADHABI-LATA. Other names found in the very same book are - - Eng. - Rangoon creeper - H & P - Lal-malti - Assam - Madhabilata - Odisha - Modhumalati - G - Barma sinivel - Mumbai - Vilayati chambeli - Mar. - Lal chameli - T. - Rangoon malli - Te, - Rangonimalle - Bur. (Burma) - Dawchmaing Regards, surajit On Thu, Apr 25, 2013 at 7:59 PM, Satish Phadke <[email protected]> wrote: > मधु मालती in Marathi. > > Dr Satish Phadke > > > On Thu, Apr 25, 2013 at 6:30 PM, Gurcharan Singh <[email protected]>wrote: > >> Hindi: Rangoon ki bel >> Guj: Barmasi vel >> Tel: Ettaguttilativva, rangonimalle, tige-ganneru >> Tam: Irangunmalle. ilengaramalligai >> Bombay: marmasi, lalachameli, rangunachavel >> >> -- >> Dr. Gurcharan Singh >> Retired Associate Professor >> SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 >> Res: 932 Anand Kunj, Vikas Puri, New Delhi-110018. >> Phone: 011-25518297 Mob: 9810359089 >> http://www.gurcharanfamily.com/ >> http://people.du.ac.in/~singhg45/ >> >> On Thu, Apr 25, 2013 at 4:20 PM, Makarand Kulkarni < >> [email protected]> wrote: >> >>> Surajit ji and Gurcharan Singh ji what are the Indian common names for >>> this plant Quisqualis indica.
