Hi Bindu,
seeds are toxic. But, leaves are used in 'pan' (पान) which is eaten after the 
heavy lunch/dinner.

Most probabely the leaves of rati has medicinal value.They are eaten for stomach
digestion even mixed in "mukhwas"
But when you all say the poisonous effect------ i am wondering if it's the same.
It's called sonamukhi pan.
