Singh-ji, Many thanks for your reply. Based on the long exserted stamens and style, I had thought S.coccinea. The leaves and flowers also seem to match other descs. of coccinea as in Queensland AU Weeds <http://keyserver.lucidcentral.org/weeds/data/03030800-0b07-490a-8d04-0605030c0f01/media/Html/Salvia_coccinea.htm>
These plants are rather slender and herbaceous. I dont find a description of S.greggi, but the images online show flowers with stamens just exserted or included. thanks ASinha On Fri, Oct 31, 2014 at 9:33 AM, Gurcharan Singh <[email protected]> wrote: > More likely Salvia greggii > > Dr. Gurcharan Singh > Retired Associate Professor > SGTB Khalsa College, University of Delhi, Delhi-110007 > Res: 932 Anand Kunj, Vikas Puri, New Delhi-110018. > Phone: 011-25518297 Mob: 9810359089 > http://www.gurcharanfamily.com/ > http://people.du.ac.in/~singhg45/ > > On Thu, Oct 30, 2014 at 6:08 PM, greenearth <[email protected]> wrote: > >> These Salvias are growing wild in a storm drain, in Bangalore. >> In addition to the 2 stamens seen, there are two more short ones with >> undeveloped anthers (staminodes?) >> >> Are they a known species or a garden cultivar escaped ?
