Dear Balkar sir
You will be surprised by this, but no where in taxonomy or ICBN or IBC
its written that what should be the size of the sheet or color.
Its just a standard that has been maintained so that one size fits
into all the herbaria, as during earlier times, they used to exchange
sheets or send sheets on loan.
Wallich who collected in Indian region along with Nepal, used to
collect tonnes of specimens. He used to make multiple copies of each
specimen he collected. Around 20 for each. Sounds bad, but, later he
distributed his sheets to herbaria across the world which was really
the best thing. Thousands of plants have been named from his
collections.
To me, white is the best color. Ivory sheet remains white for longer
time than the normal high gsm (grams per meter square). Colour sheets
also loose colour which is not good. White has nothing to loose and
gives good contrast....
