Thanks Surajit ji for sharing the snaps of Ficus Religiosa. I have truly 
been blind and ignorant all these years- now I know that it sheds its 
leaves, and will be on the lookout.

Thanks Mahadeswara ji for your inputs. I will observe this tree carefully. 
As it is in a private apartment space, I have to check if I can get 
permission to enter the premises to have a closer look. I have enclosed a 
zoomed up portion of the bark in case it offers any further clues- I could 
not see any obvious spines.
