Maybe your al-qur'an doesn't make science so different from religion,
but well, I do.

Scientific findings are never through assumptions, mate.
Researches, trials and errors, applications, simulations,
developments... but never assumptions.

There is one thing you should know about human body.
Every one of us has different level of immunity depending on: your own
immune system, environmental condition in the place where you live in,
precautions you have taken (such as vaccination you have taken,
vitamins, healthy food you have consumed, etc) and also sanitation in
relation to your day-to-day habit.

Take away one factor and you will find different results. You cannot
generalize human body and condition in relation to viral or bacterial
diseases, therefore their immune level.

You and your neighbors in kampung might live in relatively lower level
of polluted area, and might be used to live in relatively un-sanitized
environment, in which causing relatively higher immune system. But, if
you give your 'precious' un-processed rain water to for example an
american who used to drink bottled mineral water or tap water, they
will definitely suffer from viral or bacterial diseases instantaneously.

My point is, what you believe from your precious Qur'an was written
almost fifteen hundred years ago when medical science had grown only
that far. If you compare it to today's science, it would be ridiculous.

Let's take for example a case in Batavia in the 18th century (way long
after the writing of Qur'an). At that time the area of Batavia was
only as big as what we know of the Kota area today. You know the river
that flows along that area was used to be very clean. People drink the
water directly from the source without boiling it first. And then it
just happened so fast that no one ever remembered where it had
started: Cholera and Dysentery epidemic. This of course was caused by
poor sanitation. Indonesian, Dutch, Malay people, Arabs and Indians
who lived in Batavia all got the epidemic for the exception of Chinese
people. People believed that they were so strong and ever since the
Dutch loved to employ them better than the other races.

Yet, the reason was very simple. The Chinese in Batavia continued the
tradition in their motherland: Drink tea instead of water. To drink
tea, they need to boil water, thus their habit unexpectedly avoid them
from the grave epidemic. We know now the Chinese were as strong as
other races, not stronger, but they lived with a much better
sanitation. On the 18th century, people didn't know that drinking
clean water without boiling it could cause serious health threat.

When you make a comparison, you should compare apple to apple, not
apple to banana, mate. The qur'an is not wrong because when it was
written, it must have compared an apple to an apple. People today must
be very carefull in applying what's written in it because the
comparison today, is not apple to apple anymore. Science has
progressed vast and fast over the 1000 years, yet the contents of
qur'an stays the same.

If I may say, in relation to medical science regarding the cleanliness
of rain water for human consumption (not animals), which is the issue
of this topic in the first place, the qur'an is way outdated to be
picked as a point of referrence. Simply saying it: it's a hilarious
comparison. Therefore, like a Vulcan would say, illogical. I would
prefer the word, irrelevant (cause I'm not a Vulcan).

I still think that this 'religious' thing should be off the topic,
though, cause I'm sure you or someone else would one day find it
difficult to make a difference between what you believe and what you
think you believe. And when the time comes, I guarantee you, you would
feel insulted in a way. Everything is because religious point of view
is too personal to be let out in the open for discussion. It becomes
very subjective and very personal regardless of any topic you would
want to discuss.

Salam,
Indie
