I agree, I've been lurking on the Coda lists stuff for a while. (Also,
been checking up on ARLA now and then).  I think Coda is one of the more
exciting things I've seen in a while.

However, I did see something that was bothersome.   I was at a talk
about Microsoft product directions.  Specifically, NT 5.0 and beyond. 
During the discussion of the future filesystem direction, they referred
to it as "Coda" (In quotes, as if it was a code name).   Not sure what
to make of that.  

On another note, I heard from someone at Transarc about 1.5 years ago
that although DCE and Encina sales were on the decline, but AFS was
doing surprisingly well.  

I would still rather see an Open Source approach at this point though. 
I find it disheartening that in the computer industry you still have to
pay for basic components like compilers and filesystems.    I've always
felt the emphasis should be on services and applications.
