It should work fine with the Kerberos V5 rsh, and I know it works 
with ssh as well. 

You can specify:
CVS_RSH=/krb5/bin/ssh

I use the ssh version  to CVS-1.9 all the time. 

Both K5 rsh and ssh can also use K5 (forwarded tickets) to get 
get an AFS token, so the CVS repository can reside in AFS or DFS
