I'm suprised nobody's mentioned Depot (http://andrew2.andrew.cmu.edu/ANDREWII/ depot.html). It may be a little old, but we run it happily on Irix, Digital Unix, NetBSD (where it's slightly buggy but it works fine), Solaris and, hopefully soon, Unicos. It's really terrific for maintaining 3rd party software in a cell. We use it with another CMU-home grown package called SUP to keep our non-AFS boxen in sync with the AFS-using boxen.
