Yes, and yes. We're currently running a mixed 3.4a and 3.5 environment
(all the VLDB servers are running 3.4a, some of the AFS servers are
running 3.5 and some are running 3.4a, and our clients are mostly running
3.4a with some running 3.5) and everything seems to be working fine. We
have around 25 HP-UX 10.20 machines in my group and more around campus,
all running 3.4a, and they're quite happy.

The only weirdness that we've seen between 3.4a and 3.5 is slightly slow
denial of access to directories that the client doesn't have permission to
write to when the client is 3.4a and the server is 3.5 (it seems to take
up to a second or so to return EACCES instead of being quite fast like it
was previously). But we found another solution for the only place where
this was really noticeable, so I didn't track it down further. Not even
remotely a major problem, given that it was a denial of access condition
anyway.
