The Cornell Theory Center has been running AFS over ATM for a number of years
now. Other than some early ATM instabilities, we haven't had any problems or
issues with it. Our main platform is an SP2, and we route all AFS traffic
to and from the SP2 nodes over the SP2 switch to gateway nodes that are in
the ATM cloud. From what I gather, our campus is leaving ATM behind, so
we'll be moving onto other technologies - most likely 100Mb ethernet cards and
switched hubs. ATM has served us very well.
