I specifically asked Transarc about this because I want to upgrade my three VLDB servers from 3.4a to 3.5.
I was told NOT to do this... that the database WILL get corrupted if the database servers are mixed between 3.4 and 3.5. As a result, we will be looking at scheduling an entire weekend to upgrade the OS on the server (HP/UX 10.20 to 11.0 since 3.5 isn't supported in 10.20) and upgrade to AFS 3.5.
You can mix file servers and I have already done so, running one 3.5 file server and four 3.4a file servers. But you should not mix versions on the database servers.
Hope that helps,
