At Rensselaer, we have a locally written man page on 'access' permissions,
at which we point novice users.
This man page can be found via AFS in:
/afs/rpi.edu/campus/doc/man/man1/access.1
Accounts are created at Rensselaer with two directories called
'public' and 'private' in each home directory which have appropriate
permissions. Any reference to 'public directory' and 'private
directory' in this document refer to these directories which are
created for each user during account creation.
User's who don't really want to learn about ACL's are told that stuff
under 'public' will be visible to everyone, and stuff under 'private'
only to them.
