We had a while ago turned off weekly restarts since the file servers
did not have the memory leak stability problems. However, we
encountered an entirely different problem. We run mostly rs6k servers
and we have a continual problem with the creeping crud on our disks.
To this extent we not only shut down our file servers every weekend,
but we take them all the way down and do a salvage of all the
partitions. What we really want to do is unmount each partition, fsck
it, and the salvage it.
This problem remains and we still get bitten by it where we have to
shut everything down and give the disk a good ammonia cleaning with
fsck. That is perhaps twice a year, maybe a little less often, now.
