You are correct that a backup volume could tecnically take up as much
space as the R/W volume if the entier contents of the R/W volume is
changed in the period of a day. AFS backups works on a copy-on-write
scheme so if the data is not chnaged, the backup is a minial overhead.
In terms of backups - perhaps you should evaluate your data. Is a volume
of 900Meg which is turned over daily (to have the backup take as much
space as the R/W), worth backing up or will the time to reload 900meg
>From tape take longer than regenerating the data? At MIT we have a few
volumes/disks which are not backed up for this reason.
If you gererate backup volumes on a daily basis, it probably will not be
a problem as the amount of change to a R/W volume is proportional to use
and time between backups...
