Christian, we had the same problem a while back also. It turned out
that the drawer of the file cabinet we were storing out backup tapes in 
was close to the floor, and every time the janitor would come in and
vacuum the room, the magnet from the vacuum cleaner was erasing our
tapes. Once we moved the tapes to a drawer higher up in the file
cabinet our problem was solved.
