Dumping passwords into AFS

We are currently running an NIS based password authentication system
and are planning to use AFS in the future.  There are thousands of
password entries in our NIS and we would like to load these
entries and their passwords into AFS.  Is there a documented
method for doing this?  Has anyone else done this and can they
let me know what problems exist?
