I have noticed this problem both on Sparcs and RS-6000. I have found
it more serious on Sparcs. If you unplug the serial connected
console to a Sparc, it will wedge immediately and it has to be
power cycled where the RS-6000 will simply block the process
which tries to write to console.

I had an instance where I installed an RS-6000 several times
and when I rebooted it the console was inoperative and it was
found later that it was all caused by a faulty cable. Everything
during installation was going well, since it is done in
maintenance mode. I lost an evening to this absolutely
silly situation.

If anybody has a solution to this problem, I'm very interested in
it.
