I suppose one could use Hesiod and put in "cluster" information which
would set environment variables appropriately, but unless you used some
sort of database frontend like Moira, it would be very tedious to get
all of this into your DNS databases. However, assuming you have Hesiod,
you could then write something which would probe it and get the values
for various variables and set them at login time.
