With AFS 3.3 and above, when you hit the end of tape the butc will restart the volume on the next tape. Of course if you've written 99% of a large volume when EOT occurs, you've wasted time and burned network resource, so you should try to have a reasonable size for your tape in tapeconfig. I use 4400M for a 5 gig tape without compression. I was using 4700M but would still hit EOT occasionally. Mac Mathis ISSC, Austin, Texas
