No.
Amanda does not do file level backups. It currently does dump and tar
backups. But it builds an index so it can do file level restores.
The index is built at backup time so it can be referenced as needed,
without having to spin a tape to know what's on it. You can ask Amanda
about a specific file and it will tell you what tapes it's on. Then
you can pick the version you wish to restore and it will tell you which
tape to load and restore the file for you. Alternatively if you lost
a disk you can just tell it to restore a whole filesystem.
The way to accomplish this with AFS is the same as anywhere else, build
the index at backup time so you'll have it when you need it.
