Or indeed within the same machine, if you ever have to do a full
restore -- which might assign "C:\Program Files" a different
8.3-name if "C:\Program ABC" also exists on the tape.  As I
understand it, there's no way to guarantee at restore time that a
given long-name will be given the 8.3-name it had before (since
the API provides no way to specify the mapping).
