The 2003 built in terminal services will require a Client Access Licence
for each device which can be pricey like $120.00 per licence, however if
between the 2003 server CALS Microsoft Office or whatever and terminal
server CALs, if you can purchase 300 minimum you can get terminal
service CALS for about $7.00 per through the Microsoft School Agreement

GOTO: www.microsoft.com/education/SACalculator.aspx and calculate the
savings.

I was kinda wanting to do it on the cheap if possible...

2003 has TS built in, and I have heard rumors of an open source client
for
these purposes.

I also am considering this for the Media Centers here in Humboldt. We
currently have individual PCs which cause mixed experiences for the
students and often no matter how much you lock them down several fail
for one reason or another.

Some say that the drawback to terminal services is that if the server
fails your out of business. Well if a media center had say 60 PCs in it
now you'd probably want a couple of servers for that center anyway for
great performance and you'd probably want Gigabit Ethernet.

With the redundancy built into servers currently, failure would be
extremely rare and TCO would be a lot lower for the school. All apps
would be on the servers making them easier to maintain so staffing
requirements would be lower.

Check into some of the DELL ThinPC Solutions with the Linux PIXIL Thin
Client.

Ok, I am thinking of setting up a terminal server environment from a
2003
server with Linux clients.

Who's had experience in this, and what are your impressions?
