Did you make sure the sendmail binary exists there? Certain systems have
it in /usr/lib/sendmail instead.

Are you sure it didn't work once? I ask because vacation mails may not be
sent more than once in a certain amount of time. Deleting duplicate.db
before trying vacation should help here.
