Jay   Thanks for all the info. My son is popping in tomorrow and as of now I quit on this problem. It's obviously more than I am capable of handling. I did want to comment on Western Digital ... in the past, I had two of them fail on me. The last one I bought was a Maxtor. I don't know how much better it is .. it's about  20 months old and on nearly every day since I got cable ... but I do know I will never buy a Western Digital again. I just don't trust them after being burned twice. His is a Western Digital .. this could be number three.   I will let you know how we make out.
