Renames a file or files.
RENAME [drive:][path]filename1 filename2.
REN [drive:][path]filename1 filename2.
use ren with wildcards * like this
ren abc*143.mp? newname.mp3
Where 143 is unique to that file in that directory.
or you could use xcopy and then delete the file with the long name also using "*". I
have seen a lot of people have problems with filenames longer than 15 characters.
The filename rules are
A filename can contain up to 255 characters, including spaces. But, it cannot contain
any of the following characters: \ / : * ? " < > |
However, I see no reason to name a file with more than 15 characters and do not know
why people do this.
