Rita,   Have you tried closing Napster and going to Windows Explorer to rename the file?  I have helped my Mom rename dozens of songs; and, the only time it will not let me rename it - is when the song is currently playing either via Napster and/or via Windows Media Player.  So, maybe just to be sure - close ALL open programs; then open Windows Explorer and rename it either by double-clicking on the name of the file, via the file menu, and/or by right clicking on the name of the file.   The important thing is to be sure that it's not playing or on an active list to be played - that is why you will want to close all the other open programs.   Hope this helps!   ~Lisa     ps: if this still does not help - maybe you can e-mail the file to me; and, I'll try to rename it and email it back - or maybe if our Napster connection is working later (too many people on it right now - going too slow....), I may be able to download it for you and send it your way...  just let me know:  [EMAIL PROTECTED]  or [EMAIL PROTECTED]   ----- Original Message ----- From: Rita To: [EMAIL PROTECTED] Sent: Wednesday, December 27, 2000 1:25 PM Subject: Re: * informant * Shortening an extremely long file name Jay I am lost. I remember some DOS but this file is outrageous. When I right click on the title, the computer does not react. I cannot get the prompt to rename. If I try going to File to find rename, the computer will not open it. It just sort of freezes there.   I guess I am going to have to go into Napster and delete it from my playlist and hopefully find another one to dl.   To whomever asked about Napster and file sharing .. I have indicated which files I wish to share. Most of the music I am DL is stuff which was stolen from me in the mid 80's. We had created an entire library of tapes consisting of songs on 45 format. Someone took the attach� case from my husbands trunk. Needless to say I was devastated. These songs are priceless. I even managed to collect one from when I was just a wee kid. To hear it again is astonishing when I thought I would never hear it again. It brought nostalgic tears to my eyes.
