I disagree on partitioning. I kept my whole and see no loss of
speed. I know you get a faster seek rate with the HD intact than
if it was partitioned. For what you lose it's minimal compared to
the benefits. Say you have an enormous amount of files. How are
you going to start dividing them up with small partitions? For a
40 GB HD running at 7200 spindle rate, and that's the key, the
faster spindle rate, there is no lessening of speed. As for
scandisk and defrags, it takes no more time than my 10 GB HD did
when it was stuffed.
Just my opinion from past experience.
