There was a bug in ie 5 which allowed someone to crash ie or run 
code on your computer.  Perhaps this is the problem if you run version 
5.

I read that clearing the temporary file in IE 5 will remove all favicons, 
another bug.  There is also a program to fix this called favorg or 
something like that.

Clear the temp or caches file from inside IE and upgrade to IE 6 if you 
are running version 5.

This reminds me of the time I was working on a client's computer that 
was infect with Sub7. It had a little hand that would come up from the 
bottom of the screen and grab the Norton Anti-Virus icon in the systray 
and pull it under!
