Ok , I might be missing something here.
But if you are putting iMS on the server A (SQL + ims ) , and CF+ IIS on
another server (server b)
, how are you going to use to process your data.cfm etc. files.

iMS dosen't function as a full Mail Server you need the templates to
complete the mail server. To parse those templates you need to use a
scripting engine of some sort, usally CF in iMS's case.
So how are you going to parse your templates on Server A if the scripting
engine is on Server B.

Also where are you going to store your mail files ??


Also if you are talking about 1M+ web based emails per day , you really
should consider more clustering ,and all the issues surrounding that,
depending how critical your app is.

Our current mail setup here is a 5 box setup

2 x CF/IIS , 1 x MailServer ( post & smtp servers in use) / CF, 1 Fileserver
, 1 sql box

However that will be change with the addition of a backup up mx server.
