Yes - I think you are missing something here <g>.

Well for starters - the domain files (data.cfm etc.) actually)_do_reside on the
same server and and in the same directory structure as iMS itself by default
anyway. So all that is further required is for datasource to exist - by default
called "iMS" - on that same machine, which in my case also happens to be the
very same machine as SQL itself- as is my intent and also a CF server to process
the templates just for the mail. So that in itself is sufficient (correct me if
I am wrong) to operate iMS as a full SMTP/POP server right there.

The other server will run IIS/CF - also with a DSN called "iMS" and which DSN
will point to the database on the SQL/iMS machine.

Yes - I should have made that more clear - my intention is to also run CF on the
iMS/SQL server, just to process the mail templates - the rationale being that CF
will not be too stressed or resoource hungry just processing those basic
templates. My main concern is to seperate the web server from the mail server
and that includes the CF to go with IIS on the web server.

On the SQL Server/iMS machine which will have the RAID 10 storage and DLT backup
for the benefit of both SQL and the mail files.

I already have provision for load balancing through my ethernet switch if that
is what you mean.

My intention is to have one main, super fault tolerant and expandable server for
iMS/SQL and add frontend web servers as required - the plan is to go to a SAN
when we use up the first 200Gb storage by means of a fibre channel switch, dual
fibre channel cards per server etc. etc.. But that is down the line - my
questions for now are regarding the initial schema.

Yes - that is actually quite similar to my plans.

Could you tell me what the spec of your machines are (which was my original
question posed to the list) and how many messages per day you think you can
process with them?

Thanks.

Adrian.
