John,

>From what I have seen, a few things can happen.

1. iMS gets a 5xx response from the server (unknown recipient or something like
that) - calls Post Fail Template
2. iMS cannot find domain and will place in retry queue, according to your
configurator settings. When it finally gives up it will call the Post Fail
template
3. server accepts the RCPT but something ends up going wrong with it after it
leaves iMS (no Post Fail)

in this case, it depends on how the remote server handles it. Perhaps it will
have a look at certain headers such as "errors-to" (non-standard) or
Return-Path, or it will probably send the undeliverable status message to the
SMTP from if it ignores those type headers.

As far as I know, this is pretty accurate. - unless Howie knows better, which he
probably does :)

HTH,
Marc
